The Barack Obama Budget Punt

There are two basic tenets of successful leadership. A leader should lead by example and does not try to lead from behind.

The President of the United States is in effect the Chief Executive Officer of the country.  Barack Obama's lack of any real leadership skill continues to be a huge national problem.

Yesterday, the President of the United States did what he did with Obamacare.  He left the problem to the politicians of the Congress of the United States. Obama is going to lead from behind by being a bipartisan referee in national deficit reform.

The proposed Obama budget despite its optimistic assumptions and magic asterisks, is a blueprint that will still result in $7.2 trillion in new borrowing, on top of our current publicly held debt of about $10 trillion, over the next 10 years.  Leading by example in the Obama budget means spending even more money to increase the national deficit.

Of course, the Obama Budget ignores the recommendations of Obama's own bipartisan fiscal commission. The commissions plan calls for much bigger cuts in future spending than Obama does. In addition, there is no mention of any entitlement reform in the latest Obama budget.

By 2020, the commissions plan would bring spending down to 21.8 percent of gross domestic product while Obama would reduce it to 23 percent of the gross domestic product.  Back in the 1950s, spending averaged only 18 percent of GDP. Currently spending is nearly 25 percent of GDP, according to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office.

The 2011 Obama budget plan is dead on arrival in the Halls of Congress. It should be since it is the political equivalent of a football punt.

Coca Cola Recipe Discovered

The Coca Cola formula created by John Pemberton has been a closely kept secret since 1886. However, that may be about to change. The National Public Radio Program "This American Life" claims they may have discovered the top secret formula for Coca Cola.

According to Thisamericanlive.org the recipe was found in a 1979 edition of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.  A photo in the newspaper depicts someone holding open a book with a list of ingredients claimed to be an exact replica to the soda giant's namesake recipe. This American Life Aired a show about their discovery titled "Original Recipe" on February 11th.

This Day In History

1862-General Ulysses Grant earn the nickname "Unconditional Surrender Grant" when union troops surround Fort Donelson.  His terms for surrender were clear, " No terms except unconditional and immediate surrender can be accepted".

1968-The first 911 phone system goes into service in Haleyville, Alabama. The numbers 911 were chosen since they had never been designated for an office code, area code, or service code.
