A Healthcare Summit During A Jobless Recovery
Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 03:08PM
The two main stories in the news today are the jobless recovery in America and the health care summit. America continues to lose jobs. Meanwhile, an overwhelming majority of Americans continue to oppose the Democrats health care bill. Different day but the same old political story.
It is apparent that holding a political healthcare summit during a jobless economic recovery proves that Barack Obama has still not learned the lessons of history in the second year of his Presidency.

Jobless Recovery
The number of Americans filing for initial unemployment insurance surged to just below the 500,000 level last week, and have climbed more than 12% over the past two weeks, the government said Thursday.
There were 496,000 initial job claims filed in the week ended Feb. 20, up 22,000 from a revised 474,000 the previous week, the Labor Department said in a weekly report. The prior week, there were 442,000 claims filed. (from CNN Money)
Healthcare Summit
As the political Health Care Summit show drones on in Washington today, the latest public opinion polls continue to show real trouble for the Democrats. The latest CNN poll shows a public approval rate for the current Health Care Plan at 25%. Polls from Rasmussen show approval only near 40%.
The Dems do not currently have the votes in the House to approve the Senate Bill even with Reconciliation. Looks like the Health Care Bill is now dead. Obama has spent much of his early political capital but real economic problems remain.
Unemployment is still high, huge future deficits can be seen as far as the eye can see, the current recovery is fragile and there has been little legislative success for the current administration. Real trouble for the President and the Democrats are ahead unless the economy dramatically improves.
Les Miserables
